Gman and Keeney: Music

Time Rider

(Gman Blues)
1998-01-30
Bob May
This is a Bob May song. Bob is a modern day Da Vinci; sings, plays, writes, sketches, sculpts, and invents some marvelous (and functional) inventions. He is a skilled artesian right now employed crafting orchestral harps.

Bob wrote "Time Rider" back in '74 when we were playing together in Woodlind. Time Rider was the second installment of a western inspired trilogy. He said that he based the character in the story on the unnamed Clint Eastwood character in the Good the Bad, and the Ugly movie series.

In our show, Bob had the idea to play the song dressed as a devil; he even made a set of authentic devil horns out the tips of some deer antlers. He does this song a step lower and reaches DOWN to the "the devil called him son". Bob's voice is rich and deep--sounds like a sports car idling.

One of these days I'm going to drive out to the middle of the Illinois corn fields and drag May into the studio so that you can hear this song the way it was intended, but until then I humbly offer you my rendition of Time Rider.

Time Rider

His name was feared by all
And his speed was next to none
He worked one step inside the law
And the devil called him son

He'd hunt the meanest killers
And read the tracks they'd make
He wouldn't make them draw their guns
It was their own mistake

Don't draw your gun
Don't let him cut you down
You'll see the light from underneath the ground
Don't be a fool
He'll kill you where you stand
And you won't even see him move his hand

His deep set eyes shone silver
From the bounty that he earned
And stretched across a dead man's horse
Was a lesson never learned
Though most men feared him for his deeds
His legend never told
Of how he finally met his fate
And why he had returned…
