Gman Blues with David Keeney: Gman's Links
Places
- The Abbey
- I played here last winter and everyone made me feel so at home, like I was a regular there (Norm on Cheers?). Lots of really good players here.
- Anita Margarita
- Anita runs a wonderful place, great food, music, and times.
- Ballydoyle's Pub
- Ballydoyle's is a great place to play or watch. The stage is surrounded on three sides by tables. People are really happy there. Looking out you see a sea of faces and the glass chimney's of the infamous "Ballytappers". Like I said, people are happy there.
- Beale Street
- It’s a world unto itself, Bourbon Street has nothing on Beale. There’s every bit as much creativity, craziness, public boozing, and street artisans running tourist scams as Bourbon Street, but New Orleans can’t touch Beale’s Blues...
- Durty Nellies
- Excellent Man! Huge Venue, great crowd.
- Ed and Joe's Pizza
- This is a great place to play; playing there is a personal milestone for me.
- Preservation Hall New Orleans
- This is the real deal.
- Fitzgeralds
- I had the best time playing there. It's very loosley run and spontaneous. Lots of help from the "bar choir". Interesting combinations of genres and sounds people joined one another for a tune or two. Lots of musical history there as well. Highly recomended.
- Villiage Square
- These people are the nicest anywhere. Top notch folk music entertainment. Songs that will have you laughing out loud, or maybe bring a tear to the eye.
- Chocolate Cafe and Museum
- This town is what summer was designed for. The Cafe is a great place to sit down with friends and relax a while. It's right in the heart of town, and only a stones throw from the beach. The chocolate there is unbelievable. You can sit by the window and watch people go by like a huge aquarium while sipping Michele’s specially made coffee drinks. Beautiful!
- Shannon's Landing
- This is a blue collar joint. I was amazed at how may trays full of shots kept going by while I was waiting to play.
